Issued by tehsildar. Mandatory for reservation in jobs, education and certain govt benefits. Permanent — no renewal needed.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Father's caste certificate (or extended family proof)
- Birth certificate / school leaving certificate
- Address proof (ration card / electricity bill)
- Income proof (for OBC creamy-layer determination)
- Two passport-size photos
Apply via state portal
How it works
Pick your state — we show the official state portal (eDistrict in UP, Aaple Sarkar in Maharashtra, Karnataka SevaSindhu, Tamil Nadu e-Sevai, Telangana MeeSeva, etc.), the document checklist, the fee (typically ₹10–₹50), and processing time (15–45 days). The issuing authority is the Tehsildar or Sub-Divisional Magistrate of your revenue circle, not the Aadhaar centre.
Worked example
A Maharashtra OBC applicant in Pune logs into aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in, uploads father's caste certificate (or school leaving certificate showing caste), Aadhaar, address proof and a recent photo, pays ₹33.60, and gets the digital certificate in ~21 days. For SC/ST applicants the proof can also be the gram panchayat's mahsool patrak. The OBC certificate is valid for life for state quota but only 1–3 years for central OBC NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) status, which needs the family income to be under ₹8 lakh.
When to use this
- Applying for central or state government jobs under SC/ST/OBC quota
- Filling JEE, NEET, CUET or state college admission forms with reservation
- Renewing the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate every 1–3 years
- Applying for caste-linked scholarships (Post Matric, National Fellowship)
