JEE Main Rank Predictor

Approximate AIR from your normalised score. Actual rank depends on year, paper difficulty and attempt distribution — use this as a directional estimate.

Heuristic estimate. Actual rank varies by year and category.

How JEE Main score-to-rank works

JEE Main is conducted in two sessions a year by NTA with ~12–14 lakh registrations. Marks are out of 300 (75 questions × 4, with −1 negative). Because two sessions are merged on percentile (not raw marks), a single “score → AIR” table is approximate. This predictor uses the last 3 years' NTA percentile-to-rank curve so a 99.5 percentile maps to about AIR 6,000–7,000.

Score → AIR ballpark (General)

  • 280+ — AIR 1–200, 99.99 percentile, JEE Advanced top contender
  • 250–279 — AIR 200–2,000 (CSE at top NITs / IIITs, easy Advanced qualification)
  • 200–249 — AIR 2,000–10,000 (CSE/EE at NIT Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal)
  • 150–199 — AIR 10,000–25,000 (most NIT branches, top IIITs)
  • 100–149 — AIR 25,000–75,000 (newer NITs, state govt engineering)
  • 60–99 (qualifying cutoff) — AIR 75,000–3 lakh (state-level colleges, GFTIs)

When to use this

  • Right after the exam — estimate likely NIT / IIIT branches before result day
  • Between January and April sessions — see if you should reattempt for a percentile bump
  • Planning JoSAA / CSAB choice order — pair with the JEE Advanced predictor for the full IIT + NIT picture

Treat the rank as a band of ±15–20%, not a single number. Cutoffs shift year-on-year with paper difficulty; the only source of truth is the official NTA scorecard.

FAQ

How accurate is this JEE rank prediction?

Directional, not exact. Rank distributions shift year to year by ~10-15% based on paper difficulty and applicant pool. Use this as a planning aid for college choice — for actual rank, wait for NTA results.

Does this predict JEE Advanced?

No — only JEE Main. Advanced has a much smaller applicant pool (top 2.5L from Main) and uses a different scoring system. Rank-prediction methodology is also different.

What rank do I need for top NITs?

NIT Trichy / Warangal (CSE): < 1,500. NIT Surathkal / Allahabad: < 3,000. Most NITs have CSE in < 8,000. Other branches generally need rank < 25,000 for tier-1 NITs.
