How the subsidy works (DBTL / PaHaL)

Under the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL / PaHaL) scheme, you pay the full unsubsidised price at the doorstep when the cylinder is delivered. The subsidy — ₹300 per 14.2 kg refill for PMUY (Ujjwala) beneficiaries, currently ₹0 for non-PMUY consumers — is credited to the Aadhaar-linked bank account within 24–72 hours. Eligibility resets each financial year to a cap of 12 refills; consumption beyond that is at unsubsidised price even for PMUY families.

Worked example

Delhi unsubsidised price on a 14.2 kg cylinder: ₹803 (varies by city, October 2025). A PMUY household consuming 9 refills a year pays ₹803 × 9 = ₹7,227 upfront, then gets ₹300 × 9 = ₹2,700 back via DBT. Net annual cost = ₹4,527. A non-PMUY family with the same consumption pays the full ₹7,227 — the gap is ₹2,700 / year, which is exactly why eligible families should complete the PMUY enrolment via the local distributor.

When to use this

  • Budgeting monthly household expenses against actual cylinder consumption pattern
  • Confirming whether DBT credits are actually hitting the bank account each refill
  • Comparing piped natural gas (PNG) connection economics vs LPG cylinders — PNG typically wins above 10 cylinders/yr in metros

FAQ

Why don't I get LPG subsidy if I'm not Ujjwala?

Govt phased out subsidy for non-PMUY consumers from 2020-2022 (initially via "Give it Up" campaign, later quietly stopped DBT credits). Currently only PMUY beneficiaries receive ₹300/cylinder subsidy.

Is there a cylinder limit for the subsidy?

Yes — 12 subsidised refills per household per FY. The 13th onwards is at full market price even for PMUY. Most households use 8-10 cylinders/year so the cap rarely matters.

Can I check my subsidy status?

Yes — mylpg.in shows DBT credits per refill. Your bank statement also shows the subsidy as a credit entry within ~7 days of refill. Report missing subsidy to your distributor.
