Indian Shoe Size Converter
IND ≈ UK. US (men) = UK + 0.5. US (women) = UK + 2. EU = UK + 33. Brand sizing varies by ±1 — try before you buy.
How the conversions work
Indian shoe sizing follows the UK system exactly — both measure the last (the shoe's internal mould) in barleycorns (~8.46 mm) and number sizes accordingly. The US scale shifts because of historical differences: US Men = UK + 0.5, US Women = UK + 2, and the European Paris-point system uses EU ≈ UK + 33 (a Paris point is 6.67 mm). A typical Indian male wears UK 7–9 (foot length 250–270 mm); a typical Indian female wears UK 4–6 (235–255 mm).
Worked example
You wear a comfortable UK / IND size 8 in Bata or Liberty formal shoes. In US men's sizing that's 8.5; in EU numbering 42. A Nike running shoe in the same physical foot length might list as US 9 because Nike runs half a size small — always check brand-specific charts before importing from Amazon US. Kids' sizes reset at age 5 to a separate “US Kids” scale (UK + 16.5 in toddler range) — never assume adult equivalents for children.
When this is useful
- Buying Nike, Adidas, Puma online — sizing labels mix US/UK/EU/IND
- Importing branded shoes from Amazon US / UK / Europe
- School uniform shoes — growing kids' sizes change every 4–6 months
- Wedding sherwani jutti — traditional sizing often uses Indian UK numbers
For widths (B / D / EE / EEE) Indian sizing only standardises length — width is “medium” by default. People with wide feet should buy half a size up. International brands like Clarks publish width fittings that domestic Indian brands rarely match.
FAQ
Brand sizing varies — should I trust the conversion?
Use it as a starting point. Adidas runs a half-size large; Puma is true-to-size; Bata Indian-fit slightly wide. For online purchase, check brand-specific size charts or order one half-size larger than calculated.
Why are women's and men's US sizes different?
US shoe sizing has separate scales for men and women — women's US-7 ≠ men's US-7. The difference is 1.5-2 sizes (women's US-7 ≈ men's US-5.5). UK/IND uses unisex numbering.
How do kids' sizes work?
Kids: US 1-13 then resets to youth 1+. Indian kids' sizing uses cm (foot length) more than UK. Most online retailers list both. For kids especially, measure the foot in cm and check brand chart.
