Rahu Kaal Calculator
Daylight (sunrise to sunset) is divided into 8 equal segments. Rahu Kaal is the segment depending on the day of the week — Mon: 2nd, Tue: 7th, Wed: 5th, Thu: 6th, Fri: 4th, Sat: 3rd, Sun: 8th.

Avoid important new ventures, travel, or financial decisions during this window per traditional belief.
How it works
The daylight period from local sunrise to local sunset is divided into 8 equal segments. Rahu Kaal occupies one of those segments depending on the weekday: Mon — 2nd, Tue — 7th, Wed — 5th, Thu — 6th, Fri — 4th, Sat — 3rd, Sun — 8th. Since sunrise/sunset vary by latitude and time of year, the exact window shifts by city and date — in Mumbai it can range from ~84 to ~96 minutes long across June vs December.
Worked example
Bengaluru, Tuesday 12 May 2026. Sunrise 05:58, sunset 18:42 — daylight 12h 44m, so each segment = 95.5 minutes. Tuesday's Rahu Kaal is the 7th segment, which runs from 15:24 to 17:00 IST. Traditional practice avoids starting a new venture (vehicle puja, griha pravesh, signing contracts) in this window; routine work continues as normal.

FAQ
Is Rahu Kaal really inauspicious?
Per traditional Hindu astrology — yes. Empirical studies show no measurable effect, but cultural practice is widespread. Many Indians avoid starting new ventures during Rahu Kaal.
Does Rahu Kaal apply to ongoing activities?
No — only to start of new ventures. Continuing existing work (eating, sleeping, working at job) is fine. The taboo is specifically on initiating something significant.
Is sunrise/sunset universal or city-specific?
City-specific. We use defaults, but for accurate Rahu Kaal, plug in your city's actual sunrise/sunset (timeanddate.com). Variation across India is up to 1.5 hours.
