The three numbers explained
Destiny Number (Bhagyank) is computed by summing every digit of your date of birth — DD + MM + YYYY — and reducing to a single digit (except master numbers 11, 22, 33 which Indian numerologists often preserve). It is said to describe your life path and karmic direction.
Birth Day Number (Moolank) uses only the day of the month, reduced to a single digit. A person born on the 9th, 18th or 27th has Moolank 9 (Mars). Indian numerologists treat this as the strongest day-to-day influence.
Name Number (Naamank) applies Chaldean letter values (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, U=6, O=7, F=8 — and so on) to your full name and reduces to a single digit. Spelling matters: an extra letter or different transliteration changes the result.
Why Chaldean values, not Pythagorean
Most Indian numerologists follow the Chaldean (Babylonian) system because it descends from the same Vedic and Vedic-adjacent traditions used in jyotish. Pythagorean numerology (popular in Western sources) assigns A=1, B=2, C=3 in sequence and gives different totals. Always pick one system and stay with it — mixing the two produces contradictions.
Common mistakes
- Using a nickname or initials instead of the full legal name on official documents.
- Including titles like “Dr.” or “Shri” — numerologists generally drop these.
- Reducing master numbers 11, 22 and 33 automatically. Many Indian practitioners preserve them; ours does for the Destiny Number.
A note on accuracy
Numerology is a traditional belief system, not a scientific predictor. This tool computes the standard Chaldean numbers used by Indian numerologists — how much weight you give the interpretation is up to you. For a paired birth-chart view, use the panchang for the day you were born.
