How it works

The daytime (sunrise to sunset) is split into 8 equal Choghadiya segments, each roughly 90 minutes but actually varying with the season. The starting segment depends on the weekday: Sunday begins with Udveg, Monday with Amrit, Tuesday with Rog, and so on. The same 8 names rotate at night (sunset to sunrise next day) with a different starting offset. We compute sunrise and sunset for your selected city and divide the duration into eight parts.

Worked example

On a Tuesday in Ahmedabad with sunrise at 6:42 AM and sunset at 6:58 PM, daytime is 736 minutes — so each Choghadiya is 92 minutes. Tuesday begins with Rog (inauspicious, 6:42–8:14 AM), followed by Udveg, Char, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, Shubh, Rog. To start a new business, fix a date for engagement (sagai), or buy gold, pick Amrit, Shubh or Labh. Avoid Rahu Kalam, which is a separate inauspicious window inside the day.

When to use this

  • Picking a muhurat for griha pravesh, vehicle puja or shop opening in a Gujarati or Marwari household
  • Scheduling sagai, mundan or other family rituals on short notice
  • Choosing the right Choghadiya for a Dhanteras gold purchase or Akshaya Tritiya investment

FAQ

Daytime vs nighttime Choghadiya?

We compute daytime (sunrise to sunset). Nighttime has its own 8 segments with shifted order. For most muhurat purposes, daytime is what you need.

Char Choghadiya — neutral?

Char (movement) is considered "neutral" — neither auspicious nor inauspicious. Used for routine work. Not ideal for new ventures, OK for travel.

How to use Choghadiya?

Plan starts of important things (interviews, contracts, journeys, business launches) during Amrit / Shubh / Labh. Avoid Kaal / Rog / Udveg for the same.
